True/False 2012

You. Yes, you. Stop what you're doing and take some time to read about the True/False Film Festival, then clear your calendar for March 2013. You won't regret it.

I told someone recently that it's always the best weekend of the year, and they proceeded to tell me that I obviously "didn't get out much." I beg to differ.

The city of Columbia, Missouri is completely transformed, with art at every venue and a musicians on the street corners. There's something amazing about seeing people line up for sold out documentaries, being able to approach directors you admire with no sense of pretense, swaying to beautiful, intimate music showcases every night then following them up with crazy dance parties. Year after year, I'm surprised and overjoyed by the pure sense of creativity and community.

Balance

So many light sources, so little time. I like the feel, but that's just me.

Demi Lovato

I think being in a pit of 11-year-old girls might top my list of scary experiences.

Cafe Berlin Music Showcase

More music from True/False. I think my favorite band of the fest was Pearl and the Beard. Seriously, check them out!

Mojos-A-Go-Go

I shot a lot of music for True/False, which means I did a lot of super low light shooting. MoJo's is kind of a black hole when it comes to photography, so forgive the noise.

Ring Flash Experiments

This post is so freakin' hip that it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Anyway, my lovely friend Eve got a lomo ring flash for Christmas, and it works on every hot shoe. I stuck it on my 5D Mk II and played around a little bit while my friends played music. It's fun to play with different levels of exposure and although the results aren't what one typically wants with flash photography, I kind of like them. I still prefer shooting ambient light, but I wouldn't mind having one of these for myself one day.

Andre and the Giants at Eastside Tavern

My good friend and neighbor, Rob Bratney, is in the band Andre and the Giants with a couple of awesome guys named Andrew Fialka and Nick Friedman. They are super talented and competed in the final round of Clash of the Titans last night, but unfortunately they got the short straw and had to go first. They still rocked the house.
