2010 Missouri H.O.G. Rally

My second shift at the Columbia Missourian was far more agreeable. I went to the Harley Owners Group Rally at the Holiday Inn and had a blast. A story and a few photos ran here, but I had more I wanted to share.

First Day Jitters

Monday was my first shift as a photographer for The Columbia Missourian, and I was the strangest mix of excited, overwhelmed, and just plain terrified.

My assignment? To capture confused looking students and other first day-ish sort of activities. I was just as confused as the people I was photographing. What I learned? Trust my gut. I have a certain style, and instead of just going with it, I checked out a long zoom, as well as a Nikon body and took on more than I could handle. My take was less than desirable.

Needless to say, my most successful photo, and the one my editors liked best, was the photo I took just because I thought it was interesting. I'm actually looking forward to my next shift because I feel far more confident with the first say out of the way.

Here's a photo gallery with my images and some from fellow staffers/friends Mallory Benedict and Tim Rice

And now for the photos! The first and last ones ran online and in print. The middle is just an outtake that I liked, but the hat was in the way. Oh well.

MU senior Jen Stem pauses to check a campus map on Monday morning in front of Jesse Hall. Stem thought her psychology class was located south of campus by Trowbridge but was relieved to find out that it was on the white campus instead.  (my favorite!)

For Austin.

On Tuesday, it will have been three years since my cousin Austin passed away. In his memory, my family formed The Austin Buis Foundation. Last weekend they hosted a charity golf tournament and a silent auction to raise funds for the foundation.

Home Is Wherever I'm With You

In case you didn't know, Eve Edelheit is back! I hadn't seen her since December, and in that time, she's been a little world traveler. India, Denmark, all of Europe and little stop to Lollapalooza along the way. Alex Browning, Mallory Benedict and I all got together to celebrate her first night back in town, which was Monday.

We are all in love. Initiate cuddle puddle.

Repetition.

Went antiquing in Kansas City with my parents last weekend. I bought a pretty, green coffee mug, but that's it.

Mary+Jeremy

I had the pleasure of shooting some engagement photos for Mary and Jeremy, and I am so glad they went along with some of my crazy ideas. As you can see, Mary was wearing a beautiful white dress, and I asked her to trudge through waist length grass. I think the photos were worth it though! Still editing, but here's what I have so far.

Senior Photos: Mary Beth

I'm still in the editing process...but I had to share a few favorites! Mary Beth is an aspiring photographer, so we had a really good time scouting downtown for locations.

Andre and the Giants at Eastside Tavern

My good friend and neighbor, Rob Bratney, is in the band Andre and the Giants with a couple of awesome guys named Andrew Fialka and Nick Friedman. They are super talented and competed in the final round of Clash of the Titans last night, but unfortunately they got the short straw and had to go first. They still rocked the house.
